Contemporary Watercolour

In this two-day workshop, students will be encouraged to explore a contemporary approach to the process of creating watercolours, whilst drawing upon traditional techniques and materials to create appealing and inventive paintings.

Working from natural forms as inspiration, students will be guided through a series of painting exercises, allowing them to discover various ways to manipulate watercolour, whilst building up a set of skills to fully experience the medium. No previous experience needed.

We will be working on multiple pieces of paper in rotation to keep the pace engaging, and the day will be spent creating multi- layered underpaintings to be continued the following day.

Mark making will be explored using a variety of brushes and tools and important watercolour techniques such as washes, glazing and wet into wet will be put into practice. To create more visual interest, we will delve into using resists such as masking fluid and water repelling mediums.

Ways of developing ideas and transferring them to paper will be discussed and shown. Throughout the workshop, Sharon provides informative demonstrations and supportive instruction to guide the whole group, as well as attending to individuals on a one- to- one basis.

Whether you lean towards abstraction or realism, or are a complete novice, watercolour is an exciting medium to explore.
